Earth Charter Global Learning Opportunity
Coming January 2008

*The genius of Leadership lies in the manner in which leaders care about, visualize, and act on their own and their followers’ values and motivations” - James MacGregor Burns

* Digital Story Telling: Happens when people of all ages and experience make an emotional connection with others through using a blend of digital devices in the sharing of stories from their lives or imagination. This new form of storytelling is emerging with the arrival of more accessible media production techniques using computers, digital cameras, video recorders and software. Stories can be shared over the Internet in the form of pictures, video, animation, websites, blogs, podcasts, vidcasts or more.

* Community Development:
Is about opening new channels of power that encourage people to participate in the issues that affect their lives.

In January 2008, we plan to launch e-GLO (Earth Charter Global Learning Opportunity), a 4 month, online, digital story telling and community leadership training inspired by the Earth Charter.

e-GLO will be offered to 20-30 youth aged 17 - 30 who are motivated community development project planners and socially conscious artists from around the world. Participants will meet online via webcam and mic in e-GLO's own virtual conference environment. The online sessions will happen every other weekend for a period of two hours and will cover networking, workshops, interviews with expert guests, cultural performances, participant presentations celebrating local projects and e-GLO collaborative projects as well as a live interactive multi-media event open to the global public.

Selected e-GLO participants will have the opportunity to:

* network with young leaders from around the world
* receive mentorship and support with local projects from other participants
as well as from our experienced team
* gain new skills in digital story telling
* develop new channels for existing community development work
* have a great time while making a difference

If you're interested in community leadership, digital story telling, and
making a positive difference by having your work/art reach websites and
communities around the world please send an email telling us about yourself
and how this program might innovate or enhance work in your local community.

We understand not everyone in our global community has equal access to
digital technology. The e-GLO team is committed to celebrating diversity and
will give preference and support where possible to encourage active
participation across the digital divide.

Where possible, interested participants should have access to a computer
with reliable internet access, webcam, microphone, a digital camera OR video
camera. Previous experience with digital story telling ie. blogging,
uploading photos, making short films and animations is not necessary but
desired. We are working on bringing e-GLO in Spanish and hopefully in
multiple languages, however a working understanding of English will be
necessary for the first semester.

We have assembled an international e-GLO team that is currently developing
the training.  Mike Sheehan in Canada, Camila Godinho in Brazil, Leah Wener
in the USA/Thailand, and Dominic
Stucker in Sweden/Costa Rica are designing
session outlines and identifying potential speakers and artists.

We write to you to call for your suggestions for e-GLO:

* What do you want to see in ECYI's e-GLO training?
* Who do you think would do a superb job of facilitating an online session?
* What session might they (or you), facilitate?
* Which young artists could you imagine giving a performance for
participants?

We look forward to hearing your ideas and will keep you updated as we make
progress.

Thanks and peace,
Dominic, Mike, Camila, and Leah
